Alex Poliykov
Ukrainian Pianist, Conductor and Pedagogue.
He received his education from National Music Academy of Ukraine named after P.I.Tchaikovsky having separate completed B.M., M.M. degrees in Piano performance/Music Education and Orchestral conducting (Borys Arkhymovych,Tatiana Roschina, Allin Vlasenko), and from the Boston Conservatory, finishing Artist Diploma program in Piano (Michael Lewin). Besides academic studies, he has participated in a great number of masterclasses, learning from the great musicians such as Paavo Jarvi, Neeme Jarvi, Harold Farberman (conducting), Jerome Rose, Leslie Howard, Nikolai Demidenko (Piano).
Alex is actively concertizing all over the world, performing solo recitals, chamber music and collaborating with symphony orchestras in some of the best concert halls. He gives masterclasses, concert lectures, and engaging in music educational programs with elementary schools and other institutions; organizes symphonic concerts, leads opera productions.
He participates in various festivals and music competitions, such as E.Grieg International Piano Competition (Norway), Cleveland International Piano Competition, 14th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and received numerous awards, including – Honorable Mention at Opera Conducting competition in Romania (2015), MacKenzie award at the International Keyboard Institute & Festival in New York (2012), 3rd prize at the Franz Liszt Piano Competition in Utrecht (the Netherlands 2011), 2nd prize at the Franz Liszt Piano Competition in Bayreuth and Weimar (Germany 2009), and many others, including first prize at Steinway Society competition in Boston in 2008.
Alex frequently plays with orchestras, and amongst many, has some memorable experiences working with Radio-Philarmonic Orchestra of Holland (Maestro Jaap van Zweden), Newton Symphony Orchestra (Maestro James Orent), and his long term collaboration with National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, and Maestro Volodymyr Sirenko, and People’s Artist of Ukraine, conductor of National Opera of Ukraine, Allin Vlasenko.
Currently Alex is residing in Boston, teaching in M.Steinert & Sons Piano Academies in Boston and Natick, and holding Staff Pianist positions in the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. He is a founding director of
Journey Music Academy.
